Work is related to biosafety and biotechnology product development and awareness through:
·       Spearheading biotechnology and molecular based interventions for crop improvement in the division for sustainable climate resilient agricultural variety and products development. 
·       Involves hands on molecular plant breeding, molecular pathology and genetic diversity studies employing nucleic acid sequencing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) applications and omics technologies (transcriptomics and proteomics).
·       Also, involves hands on application of marker assisted selection – breeding
·       Employment of tissue culture technologies where necessary such as in developing improved vegetatively propagated varieties and application of gene editing (CRISPR-Cas9) techniques. 
·       Provide guidance in policy formulation pertaining to the development of biotechnology-based innovations and provide training and awareness to visiting groups (school and university students; policy makers) on biotechnology and biosafety related issues.
